HOUSTON - The Houston International Festival officially kicked off with a foundation fundraiser held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Tango & Malbec.

Guests enjoyed flavorful appetizers featuring fine South American cuisine, delicious Malbec wines, desserts and Argentine cocktails. Everyone also enjoyed performances by beautiful Tango dancers who wowed the crowd with their smooth moves on the floor.

In 2012, the Houston International Festival celebrates its 42 anniversary and takes place the last two weekends of April (April 21-29, 2012) in beautiful downtown Houston. Projected attendance is estimated to be around 200-250K visits. The Festival is proud to spotlight the countries of South America, with a particular focus on Argentina. Festival visitors will enjoy a weekend full of the best of South American history, arts and culture.

A total of 6‐8 entertainment zones will feature performance stages in each zone. These zones and stages will feature great music from around the world, including music from the honored country, reggae, jazz, blues, Americana music, and children’s programming. More than 50 restaurants will offer a smorgasbord of cuisine, and festival visitors can shop for unique items at a Juried Art Market and six other arts markets.

A non-stop live performance schedule will feature Reggae greats Steel Pulse, Texas blues rockers Los Lonely Boys and jazzy New Orleans band Galactic. Other World Stage performers include the swampy blues band JJ Grey and MOFRO, African reggae group Tidal Waves and Venezuela's funky Latin dance band Los Amigos Invisibles.

The Festival takes place on April 21-22 and April 28-29. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 11 am to 8 pm and an admission ticket is required.
