TEXAS CITY — A hall monitor is out of work and is the subject of a criminal investigation after he was accused of choking a student last week. The incident was captured on video on a student’s cellphone camera, the sheriff’s office said.
The incident happened during the lunch period at Blocker Middle School on Oct. 4, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said. The sheriff’s office is under contract with the school district to handle on-campus law enforcement duties.
The 57-year-old hall monitor, who is not named in this story because he has not been charged, was “horsing around” with a student when a 14-year-old boy stepped in to break it up because he thought the horseplay had gotten too rough, Tuttoilmondo said.
The hall monitor is accused of reacting by grabbing the boy by the throat and shaking him, Tuttoilmondo said.
