HOUSTON – A suspect was arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies during the past month at a northwest Houston apartment complex, deputies said.
Raul Alberto Vargas, 17, of Houston, is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon stemming from at least two recent incidents, court documents state.
According to an affidavit from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, one of the victims said he was walking through his apartment complex, located in the 4200 block of Clay Hill Drive, on Dec 29 when two men approached him from behind and grabbed his shirt.
The victim said one of the suspects was armed with a shotgun. The pair demanded the victim’s belongings and placed the shotgun to his head, threatening his life.
The suspects took the victim’s watch and jewelry before fleeing on foot, the affidavit states.
Investigators said the suspects were also involved in another incident on Jan. 3.
According to the affidavit, a victim and her boyfriend were at the same apartment complex as the previous incident when they were approached by the suspects. The victims were loading the child into a car seat when the suspects threatened them with a shotgun.
The victims said they were ordered to get on the ground, and then the suspects took the couple’s credit cards and a necklace from the boyfriend.
The woman said the suspect wielding the shotgun fired one shot into the air before the pair field the scene on foot. vDetectives investigating a series of robberies in the area said the victims were able to positively identify one of the suspects as Vargas. He remains at the Harris county Jail with a $200,000 bond.
The second suspect has yet to be identified and remains at large.
