SAN ANTONIO -- KENS 5 looked at all 67 universities and colleges in the state of Texas that submitted complete crime offense data to the FBI -- excluding medical schools -- and ranked them based on violent and property crime rates.
The methodology used for the rankings is based on FBI crime and enrollment statistics for 2009 (www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009).
The total number of violent and property crimes respectively are set to the ratio “number of students enrolled: number of crimes reported”.
Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery and assault.
Property crimes include burglary, larceny theft and motor-vehicle theft.
Student enrollment includes both full- and part-time students.
