MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -– The search continued early Monday for two men who fled the scene of a crash that killed a mom and injured her teenage son in Montgomery County.
The crash was reported shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday in the 25400 block of Hardin Store Road, sheriff’s deputies said.
Rescuers arrived to find Aurora Garcia, 49, dead in the front seat of her Toyota Corolla. Her son, 17, was critically injured.
Investigators said the Toyota was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck, and two men inside ran away, leaving the truck behind.
A search perimeter was set up, but the suspects were not located.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Kenneth Hebert, the suspects were speeding westbound and failed to negotiate a curve, slamming head-on into Garcia’s car.
Troopers remained on the scene for nearly five hours while they searched for the suspects.
