Suspects accused of stealing $20K in jewelry lead police on chase

CLEVELAND, Texas – Four men were taken into custody early Monday morning after police said they stole $20,000 worth of jewelry from a store in Cleveland.

According to the Cleveland Police Department, a silent alarm went off at Cleveland Jewelers around 2 a.m. At the same time someone across the street called police to report a suspicious van out front.

When officers arrived at the scene, the van took off. Officers said they were led on a chase reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The suspects jumped on Highway 59 as officers from Montgomery County and the Texas Department of Public Safety joined in on the pursuit. The chase came to an end on 59 at Northpark without further incident.

Four men were taken into custody.

Police said in the van they found about 100 stolen Citizen and Seiko watches.
