HOUSTON -- Police said three suspected robbers were taken into custody following a brief chase in midtown Houston early Thursday.

Officers were surprised to find two toddlers in the suspects' SUV once they got it stopped.

Houston police believe the suspects were targeting people at area clubs.

Three men approached people in the parking lot of the South Beach Night Club near Westheimer and Montrose. The robbers allegedly took cell phones, money, and purses before a security guard scared them off.

The suspects then went into midtown where an off-duty officer spotted them and notified the Houston Police Department. Police said the suspects fired at least one shot at the off-duty officer before HPD arrived and chased them about a mile to Webster at Brazos.

Two men and a woman were taken into custody.

“To me it appears she was in disbelief and in shock she put herself in this situation,” said Russel Gray with HPD.

“That’s terrible that they would go out and do something like this,” said witness Chris Bolling. “Especially in their own car, they knew what they were going out and doing. I think they should definitely go away for a while.”

One suspect managed to get away.

One victim, who didn’t want to be identified, told KHOU 11 News the group tried to rob him and even punched his friend before they took off.

No serious injuries were reported.
