SUV crashes into homes
HOUSTON -- A man was taken into custody after he plowed his SUV through three townhomes in southwest Houston early Friday morning.
A preliminary report from Houston police indicated the driver was heading northbound on Cook Road near Sandstone Street when he missed a turn and crashed. It happened around 5 a.m.
The man’s Ford Expedition went through three units before coming to a stop, police said.
Inside the first townhome a family of four was asleep, but no injuries were reported. They said the crash sounded like an explosion.
"I heard the glass so I thought it was somebody breaking in," said Maria Cattrell.
The second townhome was empty, and the third townhome had one female occupant. She was not injured, police said.
"Somebody could have gotten hurt," Cattrell said. "He could have killed someone."
A witness to the crash said the driver took off running down the street, but police later located him inside his apartment, which was not far away.
The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, a police sergeant told KHOU 11 News.
