MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Deputies north of Houston said late Wednesday a suspect was taken into custody after he stole a running car from a gas station parking lot and led officers on a chase.

The 911 call came in around 11 p.m. from a gas station on Woodlands Parkway near Grogans Mill, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The owner of a Mitsubishi Galant said someone jumped in his car and took off after he left it running in the parking lot.

A responding deputy spotted the car traveling south on I-45 near FM 1960 and a chase followed.

Deputies said the driver hit speeds around 100 miles per hour before exiting the freeway and running several red lights.

The chase came to an end when deputies said the suspect reached a dead end and crashed into a fence on Brownie Cambell at Landeau Circle.

A deputy parked his SUV behind the suspect’s vehicle and took the man into custody.

No injuries were reported.

Montgomery County deputies said Houston police and deputies from Harris County assisted in the chase.
