HOUSTON -- A suspect led officers on a 25-minute chase in northeast Houston early Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The chase started when an officer tried to stop a Toyota SUV on Lavender Street at Weaver Road shortly before 1 p.m., according to a Houston police spokesman.
Shannon Burrell led police through several neighborhoods, and officers deployed spike strips to try and get him to stop. Unconfirmed reports suggested the driver sideswiped a patrol car in his attempt to get away, but no injuries were reported.
Despite having two flat tires, Burrell kept going for several more miles.
The chase came to an end when he pulled under a carport at a home in the 6300 block of Wileyvale Road. Burrell's grandmother resides at that home.
"He's been in trouble before," said Robert Foreman, the suspect's uncle. "He didn't want to hurt his grandmother."
Burrell was taken into police custody.
