HOUSTON – A man surrendered to police Monday in the parking lot of a south Houston gas station following a 30-minute chase that started in southwest Houston.

The chase began Monday around 11:15 a.m. after a traffic stop near Glen Meadow and South Rice.  Police said the man’s license plate came back as suspicious and officers also noticed suspicious items in the man’s car. The officer also said he smelled PCP in the car. They said that’s when the suspect took off.

Air 11 video showed several police cars in pursuit of a green Chevy Lumina. Police said the man tossed drug paraphernalia out the vehicle during the chase.

The man eventually stopped around 11:45 a.m. at the Buzzy Bee gas station located on South Post Oak at the Beltway.

Police said 34-year-old Phillip Joseph Rogers faces several charges, including felony evading and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Officers went back along the chase route to collect evidence that was thrown out of the vehicle during the chase, police said.
