HARRIS COUNTY, Texas –- A suspect is on the run after evading a deputy constable east of downtown Houston overnight.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials said a Harris County Precinct 7 Deputy Constable attempted to stop a Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation on Lockwood near Navigation. The driver refused to stop and went several blocks before pulling into a business.

The constable said the suspect's small car managed to go under a metal chain that had the driveway blocked off, but the officer's SUV couldn’t make it through. The suspect went another block and ditched the car to run away on foot.

Officials searched the area, but the suspect was not located.

The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen, constables said.
