HOUSTON – An armed robber will be heading to jail once he is released from the hospital after crashing his getaway car during a chase in Spring Thursday night.

According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, the man entered a Burger King on Cypresswood at the North Freeway around 9 p.m. and held the employees at gunpoint, demanding cash.

After the holdup, he jumped into his truck and began to flee the scene, but a deputy spotted him and began to give chase.

The suspect fled southbound on the North Freeway, took the FM 1960 exit and was attempting to make a U-turn under the freeway, but was going too fast and lost control. The truck went airborne and slammed into a concrete pillar.

Heavy rescue had to extract the pinned man from the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The suspect also struck a couple of cars as he was fleeing the Burger King, but it was unknown if anyone was injured.
