HOUSTON --The homeless in Houston were packed into the Star of Hope shelter Wednesday morning as temperatures dipped into the mid-20s.

The shelter reported the Men's Center is at full capacity, although it can still fit around 100 more people if needed.

The Women and Family Emergency Center was over capacity with 275 beds full and 55 people inside waiting for more space to open up, officials said.

The Love in Action van will be out in the streets Wednesday and Thursday passing out blankets and coats to the homeless.

Donations are still needed to help the homeless fight the freezing temperatures in the coming days.

The Star of Hope said its needs include warm stocking caps and gloves, along with men and women's coats in sizes 2XL and 3XL.

Another option is to make a $10 donation via text message.  To donate,  text STAR to 20222.
