SPRING, Texas—Nearly six hours after one student was fatally stabbed at Spring High School Wednesday and three others were wounded, students were finally allowed to get on buses to go home or head across the street to their waiting parents.
For many parents, several hours of frustration waiting outside the high school and hearing conflicting stories ended the way they hoped – with hugs.
There was a mixture of cheers and tears as the students ran into their loved ones arms after a long day, filled with terror.
“I’m just glad that I am out here. I’m just glad that I wasn’t like, involved in the stabbing or anything,” one male student said.
Others spoke of the chaos inside.
“It was blood trails, people rushing, people falling in it, other fights going on, girls getting slapped—all that,” two female students described together.
The school was placed on lockdown and the students were forced to sit for hours, barricaded in classrooms without any food, while their teachers kept watch.
The students were relieved their nightmare was over and, although they felt lucky to be alive, they did share one regret.
“I just wish the boy that died could have hugged his mama,” one of the girls said.
Sadly, that moment will never come.
Spring High School officials said the school will remain closed until Monday.
