HOUSTON--A middle school teacher in Spring ISD who raped a student in his classroom made a plea agreement on Tuesday morning.

Andre Levelle Thomas has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and must pay a $1,000 fine.

On August 31, 2011, Thomas called the victim—a 13-year-old student at Edward Roberson Middle School—to his classroom between 9th and 10th periods. She was sitting on a desk at the back of the classroom when Thomas raped her.

She made an outcry about the assault a month later on October 4 when she and her parents met with investigators at the Children’s Assessment Center.

Thomas had been at Roberson since August of 2009. He taught sixth- and seventh-grade students.

He’ll also spend the next ten years on probation. The judge made him surrender his teaching certificate, register as a sex offender, and ordered him to have no contact with children.
