HOUSTON –- Shots were fired as a couple was robbed outside the Truluck’s restaurant on Westheimer early Wednesday, Houston police said.

It happened around 4 a.m. near Sage Road.

According to police, a man and woman were in a vehicle outside the restaurant when four men in a white SUV pulled up and tried to rob them.

Police said the male victim, 26, ran from the suspects to try and distract them. As a result, the gunmen opened fire on him, but he was not struck.

The robbers ended up pistol whipping the male victim and took his wallet and cell phone.  His female companion was uninjured.

Police also said the gunmen made verbal threats to kill the male victim.
