HOUSTON—An investigation is underway after a shot man stumbled into a southwest Houston gas station asking for help.

It happened at the Valero in the 8300 block of Wilcrest at Beechnut shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday.

A witness said the shooting victim drove himself to the station in a gray Chevrolet Impala.

“He pulled up here and stopped quickly,” said Angel Frayre. “He said ‘call the cops, call the cops, I’ve been shot.’ He ran straight inside – you can see the trail of blood.”

When police arrived the 33-year-old man was lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the stomach area.

He explained to officers that some unknown people drove up next to him and opened fire as he was sitting in a parked vehicle at an apartment complex located at 10522 Beechnut.

He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
