HOUSTON – Authorities are searching for several male suspects in connection with the shooting death of a man at a north Houston bar early Sunday.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a call of an assault in progress at 2:10 a.m. at Vara’s Sports Bar, located in the 2700 block of the North Freeway.
When police arrived, they found a man, 39-year-old Jesus Geraldo Solis, dead from a gunshot wound inside the bar.
Investigators said three men entered the bar at closing time and tried to force a woman at the bar to dance with one of the suspects.
Solis intervened and told the suspects that the woman had a boyfriend at the bar, police said. That is when one of the suspects went to their vehicle and returned with a handgun.
The suspect confronted Solis and shot him in the leg, police said. When Solis attempted to walk away, the suspect shot him several times.
The suspects then fled the scene in a silver sedan, police said.
Witnesses said the suspects looked to be in their early-20s.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to call HPD homicide or Crime Stoppers.
