HOUSTON – A local man isn’t sure what to do next after his car was hit and damaged by a deputy’s cruiser.

The deputy was responding to a call nearby, but forgot to put his unit in park and it rolled into Ronald Love's car.

The damage wasn’t huge, but it’ll cost close to $1,500 for repair and a rental car.

Love filed a claim with the sheriff's office, but Tuesday it was rejected, and he still can't believe why.

”She said it was due to some law code because nobody was in either vehicle that they're not liable,” Love said.

KHOU tried repeatedly to get more information from the sheriff's office about this claim, but our calls were not returned.

Love said he doesn’t know how he’ll pay to fix the damage.
