FULSHEAR, Texas – A 9-year-old boy was shot in the leg while walking with his grandfather Saturday afternoon in northwest Fort Bend County, the sheriff’s office said.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said that the boy and his grandfather were walking at about 4 p.m. in the 3900 block of Nails Road when the boy was apparently hit.
The grandfather told investigators that they were walking and the boy just fell down. After examining the child, he realized that his grandson had been shot, but he did not know where the bullet came from.
He told deputies that he did not hear a gunshot.
Deputies said that they do not believe the bullet game from either of the nearby shooting ranges, and they did not know what kind of bullet hit the child.
There is a nearby riverbed where people tend to fire off guns in the woods, deputies said. They suspect that the shot came from there and that it was probably an accident.
The child was taken by ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston to be treated for the gunshot wound. His condition has not been released, but the wound is considered to be non-lifethreatening.
