HOUSTON—A man charged with impersonating a DEA agent is in federal custody.
David B. Webb appeared in federal court Thursday morning in a wheelchair.
On the website for his business, Webb Kennels, David Webb claims to train German Shepherds for all kinds of purposes. Photos show the dogs in training and available for purchase, but that’s not all he’s advertising:
“We provide drug awareness programs to organizations, schools and churches throughout different counties in Southern Texas.”
A photo on his website shows a classroom lecture, and that is exactly what may have gotten him in trouble with federal agents.
“I can’t speak to what he does as a K9-training officer. But I think that there is a big distinction between a Drug Enforcement Agent and someone who trains dogs,” said Thomas Hinojosa, the Associate Special Agent in charge of the Houston DEA office.
When Webb was taken into custody, he was found with what appeared to be a DEA agent’s credentials and vehicles.
“They look like police vehicles. They look like the real deal. They are equipped with police lights. The whole package,” said Hinojosa.
A 2011 Dodge Charger with a Police Interceptor Package was seized by federal agents.
Webb remained in custody Thursday, waiting for a bail hearing.
