PORTER, Texas – A volunteer with the Salvation Army was arrested Monday afternoon and accused of stealing from the Porter Walmart Supercenter she was assigned to.

Royal Jean Shields, 56, of Conroe, is charged with felony theft of more than $50, but less than $500.

According to the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, a deputy constable responded to the store, located in the 23500 block of Interstate 59, at 3:30 p.m. after loss prevention employees detained Shields.

The employees said they witnessed Shields concealing merchandise in her Salvation Army apron and walking out of the store without paying for the merchandise.

Deputies said Shields had more than $70 worth of stolen cologne and perfume.

Because she had two or more prior theft convictions, the charge was automatically enhanced.
