HOUSTON – Outbound traffic on the North Freeway came to a stop after an SUV came crashing down onto the freeway from the overpass Monday afternoon near downtown.
The accident happened just before 3 p.m. near North Main Street when the driver of the SUV took the exit and loss control of the vehicle. He hit the wall first before flipping the SUV off the overpass.
Mark Hall, a co-worker of the victim said he was following him when the accident happened. He said they move vehicles for a dealership. Hall added that he believes the victim must have had a medical emergency since he is a good driver.
Hall said his co-worker did not have a reason to take the North Main exit, so something had to be wrong.
He added that he does not expect the driver of the SUV to make it.
The accident was cleared around 4 p.m., but crews from the Texas Department of Transportation are on the scene to examine the bridge.
Motorists are urged to be careful when traveling through the area.
