ROME -- Thursday was a busy day for the newly elected pope.
Pope Francis I began the day by carrying flowers to the altar of the main basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
After that, he collected his bags from the hotel where he had been staying before the conclave. He even insisted on paying his bill.
Pope Francis then returned to the Sistine Chapel to celebrate his first mass with the cardinals who elected him.
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston - Houston spoke to 11 News’ Ron Trevino in Rome about the new pope. Click on the video icon to hear what he had to say.
