HOUSTON -- Police say three people were sent to the hospital when a driver struck an SUV from behind and caused it to flip on Highway 290 late Sunday.
The crash happened on the freeway’s outbound lanes near Pinemont shortly before midnight.
Witnesses told police a driver in a Chevrolet Camaro was speeding when she ran into the back of a black SUV. The SUV then rolled over.
A passenger in the Camaro was critically injured and rushed to the hospital. Two people in the SUV were sent to the hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Camaro complained about a sore foot but was able to give investigators her side of the story in a nearby parking lot.
“We're going to complete the accident investigation, and based on the results of her toxicology, she could be looking at anything from intoxication assault up to, if the passenger passes away, intoxication manslaughter," said Sgt. Jr Roberts with HPD.
Highway 290 reopened a few hours after the crash.
