MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Three men were taken into custody following an armed robbery and a lengthy chase from The Woodlands into Houston early Friday morning, deputies said.
The robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. at the 24 Hour Fitness on Lake Woodlands Drive near Six Pines Drive.
A man told authorities he was in his car listening to a radio show before going into the gym when a red car pulled up next to him. He said two men got out of the car and each pointed a gun at him. One of the men allegedly punched the victim in his neck while they took his cell phone and wallet.
The victim told authorities the men shouted “where’s the money?” before getting back into their car and fleeing the scene.
Deputies responded and were able to get a license plate for the suspects’ red Dodge sedan, which was later spotted on I-45. Authorities pursued the suspects, hitting speeds of 115 mph before getting on the 610 Loop.
The chase made it to the Gulf Freeway where the suspects exited at Scott Street. The men then crashed at Hadley and jumped out to try and run away on foot. A Houston police K-9 unit caught one of the suspects, police said, while deputies managed to catch two other men in the car.
Police also located one of the suspect’s guns which was thrown out a window along Scott.
The victim was not seriously injured but told the media his wife has now banned him from going to the gym at night.
