HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Two Family Dollar Stores were robbed overnight – one in southeast Houston and the other in northern Harris County, authorities said.

While the robberies were not immediately connected, the investigation is still underway.

It was around closing time Monday when a Family Dollar on Cullen in southeast Houston was robbed.

A worker said two guys with bandannas over their faces came in the front door. One of the men pulled a gun and started making demands.

“All they were saying was, ‘that’s it, that’s it, everybody just give me the money!’ and there were some other people standing over there, and I was so scared,” said employee Courtney Roberts. “I just walked around and opened the register, and he took all the money out.”

The men got away with about $800 in cash.

Harris County Pct. 4 Deputies were later called to the Family Dollar on Kuykendahl Road near Ella after a robbery was reported there. Again, two men entered the store and demanded cash. They also took a cell phone from a customer.

Deputies said the men opened fire in the store while trying to scare employees, who locked themselves in a closet.

A Harris County Sheriff's Office swat team was called in to sweep the store, but the suspects were already gone.

No injuries were reported in either robbery.
