HOUSTON -– Neighbors say the man who died in a house fire late Sunday had recently retired from teaching.

The fire was reported around 10:24 p.m. in the 15000 block of Chimney Rock, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters found heavy flames and smoke coming from a one-story home. The managed to put out the fire but not before it destroyed the home.

Officials said an older man’s body was found at the front of the residence.

Investigators are looking into claims that the man was outside at one point during the fire but then went back inside for some reason.

According to neighbors, the man lived at the home with his mom and aunt who were in their 80s. No other injuries were reported, however.

Area residents said they suspect an electrical issue sparked the blaze.

“He went by and saw the house on fire, and he heard something popping,” said one neighbor. “So it’s possibly electrical or something like that, you know we don’t know exactly.

The investigation is on-going.
