HPD investigates fatal shooting of 18-year-old man in Fifth Ward

HOUSTON – Officers responding to a shooting call found an 18-year-old man fatally shot Wednesday in the backseat of a Dodge Charger in Fifth Ward, Houston police said.

The incident happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 2100 block of Russell Street near Liberty.  The driver of the Dodge Charger called police to report that his friend Jaylen Townsel had been shot.

Investigators said they believe Townsel was shot at another location and then driven to the Russell address.

Homicide investigators detained a 17-year-old boy for questioning, but no charges have been filed at this time.
