HOUSTON – Deputies were called to a random shooting in north Harris County Friday, but the victims’ story quickly unraveled.

The couple told deputies they were driving near Ella and Kuykendahl when a man fired a shotgun into their car.

"He says an unknown person approached his car and that is when the gunshot took place, but that is not what happened," said Lt. Ronnie Glaze with Precinct 4.

The woman was hit in her arm and neck. But there was no sign of a shotgun blast through the vehicle.

"As we were investigating, we did find out that it took place in an apartment in the complex here," Lt. Glaze said.

Deputies won’t say which unit at the Vanderbilt Apartment Complex in the 13000 block of Kuykendahl.

They think the man fired the shotgun and then took the victim to the car before he called 911. They tested him for gunshot residue and took him into custody.

The female victim, in her 30s, is being treated at Ben Taub Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Neighbors say the complex is usually quiet.

"I was a little shocked because I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ it is very quiet over here and I feel safe but," Denise Andrews said.
