HOUSTON—There was a big rally and concert in Beaumont Wednesday night to celebrate the cheerleaders at Kountze High School.

The East Texas squad continues to lead the fight in favor of faith-based-banners at football games.

School officials had banned the religious banners after someone complained.

Supporters of the cheerleaders have launched a petition drive asking Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to join them in their cause.

“When you believe in something, no matter what in this world, you’re going to have someone oppose it. We’re here to encourage those young people, we’re here to encourage the families,”  said rally organizer Darin Sasser.

Last week a judge said the banners can stay, at least for now. A judge will begin hearing arguments from both sides in the case next week.
