HOUSTON—The Friday morning commute was a soggy one for many, but 11 News Meteorologist Mario Gomez said the heaviest of the rain could arrive later in the day.
Because of that, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch effective until 6 p.m. for Austin, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Matagorda, Waller and Wharton counties.
Early Friday, the worst of the weather was on the immediate coast.
Gomez said high tides could cause flooding in some seaside communities, and the rain won’t help.
"Anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain will just kind of hasten that flooding threat along the coast Friday," Gomez said.
For the rest of us, Gomez said most of the wet weather will move out of the area late in the afternoon, making way for a frontal boundary and drier, cooler air.
And that will make for a crisp, fall Saturday with highs in the low-60s, lows in the 50s and a 30-percent chance for showers.
Sunday, we should see sunshine and a high of 70, Gomez said.
