WALLER COUNTY, Texas -- Two puppies that were tied together and thrown in a ditch last week in Waller County have a new home in Iowa.

Dr. Aimee Beckham with About Time Farms happened to spot the dogs while driving by.

The veterinarian treated the puppies and discovered they were bound so tightly that their hind legs couldn't be saved.

She took them to the Companion Animal Hospital and they amputated one leg on each dog.

Employees named the puppies Poncho and Lefty.

"Minus the occasional tip over while playing tug of war you would never know they had each lost a leg," the hospital posted on its Facebook page.

The story spread nationwide and one woman was so touched she drove 17 hours straight from Iowa to adopt both dogs.

If you have any information about the person who dumped the dogs, please call the Waller County Sheriff.
