HOUSTON – While lawmakers are considering a proposal that would solve the state budget crisis without raising taxes, it would call for deep cuts in public education.
It is estimated to be about $5 billion in public school cuts and that means local school districts would see their funding drop by 23 percent.
Higher education would take a hit too and the state's main financial aid program for college students would get cut in half.
"I can find no sense in it at all, and I hope that logic will prevail," said Brazosport College President Dr. Millicent Valek.
