GALVESTON, Texas – A woman experiencing pregnancy issues was airlifted from a Disney cruise ship 180 miles off the Galveston coast early Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew lifted the 31-year-old woman from the ship and took her to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
The rescue was called for by the captain of the Disney Magic late Friday night, the Coast Guard said.
The woman’s identity was not released. Her condition was not known.
KHOU 11 News spoke with Disney who thanked the Coast Guard for their assistance. They declined to comment any further on the rescue "out of a respect for the passenger's privacy."
Disney said passengers cannot sail on a ship if they are more than 24 weeks pregnant.
