HOUSTON -- A Houston-area deputy constable is facing a drunk driving charge after he was found apparently asleep behind the wheel of his idling pickup truck while his 4-year-old son was in the vehicle.
The Houston Chronicle reports Harris County Precinct 3 Deputy Constable Henry Williams was free on a $10,000 bond Friday.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Thomas Gilliland says Williams was off-duty Thursday afternoon when deputies found him asleep behind the wheel on the side of a road.
Officials say Williams was charged with driving while intoxicated because even though the truck was not moving, its engine was on.
Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones says Williams will remain off-duty pending an investigation.
Jones called Williams an exemplary employee.
Court records did not list an attorney for Williams.
