GALVESTON, Texas—A convenience store clerk allegedly involved himself in illegal gambling while police questioned him about selling alcohol to a minor.
On Friday, the Galveston Police Department conducted a targeted operation focusing on the sale of alcohol to minors at various locations on the island.
Around 3 p.m., two plain clothes officers and an 18-year-old assisting the investigation entered a convenience store at 7501 Stewart Road.
The underage buyer was allegedly able to purchase alcohol and the observing officers identified themselves to the clerk and began questioning him.
At that time, a customer who was playing an electronic gaming machine approached the counter with a cash-out slip stating he had won $165. The clerk paid the customer the cash as the officers observed him.
Police then expanded the investigation to include illegal gambling.
