Police say driver wasn’t wearing seatbelt when he slammed into light pole

HOUSTON -- A driver was critically injured when he crashed into a red light pole in southwest Houston overnight, police said.

According to officers with the Houston Police Department, the crash happened shortly after midnight Sunday on W. Bellfort Avenue near Bob White Drive.

Police said the driver lost control for unknown reasons and left the roadway. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was critically injured when his Dodge Charger hit a pole.

Paramedics took the driver to Ben Taub Hospital.

Crews were called in to fix traffic lights that were knocked off the pole.
