HOUSTON –- Police are looking for a man they say strangled and raped an 84-year old woman in her Spring Branch-area home. They have now released a sketch of the suspect.

It happened on February 2 around 8 a.m.

Police said the man broke into the home through the front door. The case has stunned the neighborhood.

Kay Easton, a neighbor, said the victim is a widow and uses a wheelchair and walker to get around.

“It was brutal,” said Easton, “He nearly killed her.”

The victim had cash and jewelry on her nightstand, but that the suspect didn’t take any of it.

“Makes you even more frightened because it wasn’t just a robbery,” said Easton, “It was definitely intended to be a rape.”

Easton also said when the victim regained consciousness, she called emergency officials using life alert. It was discovered at the hospital that she had been sexually assaulted.

Pat Dobes said the news has stunned this quiet neighborhood.

“We have all these people coming here, they cut through, this is a cut through street,” Dobes said. “Plus all the different yard crews, it’s not the same people all the time.”

The woman’s adult children moved her to an assisted-living facility.
