HOUSTON—One suspected carjacker was arrested, but another got away after leading police on two separate chases, which both ended in southwest Houston.
According to Houston police, two men carjacked and robbed a man of his Ford Mustang and other personal items near Braeswood around 11:30 Tuesday night. The man was able to track his cell phone, then alerted HPD to its location. When police arrived to the apartment complex where the cell phone was tracked to, they saw the stolen Mustang and two men sitting inside a car parked next to it.
When the suspects spotted police, one of them hopped into the Mustang while the other remained in the second vehicle, and they both sped off. Police chased both drivers.
Officers followed the Mustang to an apartment complex on Fondren, where the driver jumped out and fled on foot. He remains on the loose.
The other suspect, however, ended up crashing into a bus stop on S. Gessner and Beechnut. He bailed out of the vehicle and tried to hide in a bayou culvert, but police found him and pulled him out. The suspect was then placed under arrest.
