HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County woman was in jail Thursday, accused of failing to stop the abuse of her child.

According to court documents, Brittney Lindley didn’t do enough to keep Austin Huckabee from kicking her 2-year-old son.

Police said the injury was first reported in January by the owner of the day care the boy attends. The owner told police she’d noticed an injury to the boy’s groin area. When officers asked Huckabee about the boy’s injury, they said he told them the child was probably hurt while straddling a bathtub.

Huckabee later told investigators he’d playfully kicked the boy in the groin with his foot while the child was wearing a diaper, but an investigation revealed that the boy’s injury was consistent with being forcefully kicked.

Lindley told police she’d witnessed Huckabee kicking her son in the groin several times. She said she told Huckabee to stop, to no avail.

During their investigation, police learned the day care owner had found and reported injuries on the child on seven other occasions.

Lindley was charged with injury to a child by omission and was being held on $5,000 bond.

Huckabee was charged with injury to a child, but was out on bond Thursday.
