CHANNELVIEW – Life Flight transported a 2-year-old boy who fell out of a second-story apartment window Friday in northeast Harris County.

It happened just after 5 p.m. at the Lafayette Village Apartment complex located in the 4800 block of East Sam Houston Parkway.

A family member said the toddler’s mother opened all the windows as she was cleaning the apartment. The little boy was leaning on the window screen when it suddenly popped out.

Derrick Hayes and his fiancée saw the boy in the window one minute and on the ground the next.

"We just seen him in the window and when i thought about it, I said he just fell out the window," said Hayes.

A witness said the toddler appeared to have head swelling after falling and was bleeding from the head, mouth and nose.

Athiena Jackson saw the boy's mother after the accident and can't imagine how she's coping.

"I would have just been like put me inside the crazy house and lock me up and throw away the key," said Jackson."I wouldn't be able to come back to reality after that."

Life Flight took the toddler to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Officials said he lost consciousness at the scene and had to be intubated. Once at the hospital, he was taken to the ER for traumatic injuries.

At last check, he was listed in critical condition.
