HOUSTON—Four people were killed Saturday and one injured after a street racing accident, according to witnesses. It happened on the Gulf Freeway at College in southeast Houston.
Police said around 2:30 a.m., two pickup trucks were racing each other when they lost control. The truck in the left lane struck a curb, swerved and forced the other truck to veer off the road to the right. That truck then lost control and went off the road. Both trucks slammed into metal signs in a parking lot.
The red truck, with three occupants inside, wrapped around a Fiesta sign. Two inside the truck died and the other was transported to Ben Taub hospital. The maroon truck slammed head-on into another sign, killing the passenger. The driver was transported to the hospital. Police said they believe alcohol played a factor in the accident.
One of the accident victims transported to the hospital later died.
