HOUSTON – One person died and another was seriously injured after police said three men leaving a pub wrecked their car on the northwest side of town.

According to the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred at the corner of Tomball Parkway and FM 1960 around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said three men were in a BMW sedan when the driver took a curve in the Willowbrook Mall parking lot too fast. The vehicle jumped a curb and smashed through a metal and brick fence.

Police said the impact on the passenger’s side of the vehicle was severe, and the person sitting in the front seat died at the scene. The passenger in the back of the car was sent to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver was not injured, police said.

Officers said the driver admitted that he and his two passengers were drinking at a nearby Baker Street Pub & Grill before the crash, but he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The driver was taken into custody, and officers said a mandatory blood draw would be carried out at Ben Taub Hospital.

According to HPD, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office is accepting a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
