HOUSTON – Houston police have released the identity of a driver whose SUV came crashing down onto the freeway from the overpass last month near downtown.

The accident happened on April 28  just before 3 p.m. near North Main Street. Gregory Gott, 50, took the exit and loss control of the vehicle, police said. He hit the wall first before flipping the SUV off the overpass.

Mark Hall, a co-worker of the victim said he was following him when the accident happened. He said they move vehicles for a dealership. Hall added that he believes Gott must have had a medical emergency since he is a good driver.

Hall said his co-worker did not have a reason to take the North Main exit, so something had to be wrong.

Gott was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

He was pronounced dead on Monday, May 12, police said.

No other persons, nor vehicles were involved in the accident, which remains under investigation.
