HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Officials said a 19-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of an elderly man in east Harris County.
Otis James, 83, was found dead in his Highlands home late Monday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said family members went to the victim’s home in the 100 block of South 4th Street around 8:30 p.m. and made the discovery.
Investigators said James was found shot in his living room, sitting unresponsive in a chair. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Deputies said the man’s pickup truck, described as a white 2012 Ford F-150 crew cab, was missing. Several hours later, deputies located the truck along the East Freeway just west of Beltway 8.
Deputies questioned several people and later named Randy Segura, 19, as a person of interest in the case. Segura was taken into custody by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Highlands area.
Segura is charged with capital murder.
