HOUSTON – The woman who allegedly led officers on an early morning chase while drunk was also in the country illegally, police said.

The chase started shortly after 2 a.m. Friday when an officer with the Houston Police Department tried to stop a Dodge Charger for a traffic violation on E. Crosstimbers. Police said the driver refused to pull over and continued westbound, running red lights in the process.

The suspect then turned south on the Hardy Toll Road where officers boxed her in, forcing her to stop the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

According to police, the woman’s family owned the car, but she was in the country illegally. HPD said she now faces a DWI charge along with felony fleeing. Police also said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would be notified of the arrest.
