HOUSTON—Students at Rice University were taking added precautions Wednesday as police continued to search for an armed robber who struck Tuesday night.

University police alerted students via email about the incident, which occurred at a bus stop located on the edge of campus near the football stadium.

According to authorities, a female student was waiting all alone for the bus when a man armed with a gun hopped out of a car and demanded her money.

Police said the victim gave up her cash and cell phone.  Then the robber hopped into the passenger’s seat and another person drove the car off.

The victim was not injured and police urged other students to be careful.

It appeared that message had gotten through.

“It makes me nervous”, said Jeni Margules.  “I honestly think it will make me walk someplace else at night.  And always go with a buddy.”

Other students called on the university to provide better lighting in the area.

“I think if there were more lights around here, this would happen a lot less,” said Ben Stoehr.

Police only had a vague description of the robber.  There was no description of the man who was driving the car.

The victim was not injured.
