HOUSTON—Police are asking for the public’s help in solving the murder of a disabled woman in north Houston.

Police said 60 year-old Deborah Boudreaux was killed in an apparent strangulation this week.

It happened in her home at the Independence Hall apartments on Burress Street. The complex is for seniors and the disabled.

Investigators said Boudreaux was born with cerebral palsy, and was only able to move around on a motorized scooter.

"The victim in this case would routinely ask strangers for help to get out of her wheelchair and into her bed," said C.P. Abbey of the HPD Homicide Division.

According to police, Boudreaux had a caregiver 7 days a week, but not 24 hours a day. Investigators said she would routinely leave her door open and ask people walking by to help her.

This past Wednesday, however, someone took advantage of that.

Police said the suspect killed her and ransacked her apartment, stealing a TV and microwave oven.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (713)-222-TIPS. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
